 Aluminum wafers are tougher – they won’t break or chip like silicon.  A silicon wafer that breaks in your tool during set-up/testing often requires hours of clean-up time. 

Aluminum wafers won’t be mistaken for silicon wafers and used in production.  Silicon wafers used for wafer handling set-up/testing are usually of poor quality, yet are sometimes “appropriated” for production with subsequent poor yields and wasted processing cost. Aluminum wafers can be made in a variety of colors and with integral artwork or labeling so they can’t be mistaken for silicon!

Aluminum wafers are non-contaminating.  Our wafers are anodized, resulting in a hard, abrasion resistant coating of Al₂O₃ – the same material often used in semiconductor processing tools.
